Semaglutide is a unique type of medication called a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It mimics the effects of a naturally occurring hormone in our bodies known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). GLP-1 helps regulate one’s blood sugar levels and also has an impact on appetite and feelings of fullness. Semaglutide is typically used for diabetics to help control blood sugar levels, but it has also been found to be incredibly effective in helping adults achieve their weight loss goals.
Semaglutide works to reduce appetite and increase feelings of fullness, which may lead to a reduction in calorie intake and eventually result in noticeable weight loss. It also slows down the emptying of food in the stomach, which helps to regulate blood sugar levels and prevent spikes in insulin. Additionally, semaglutide can impact the reward system in one’s brain, reducing cravings for common high-calorie foods.
Semaglutide has been approved by the FDA specifically for weight loss and is usually considered safe for use. However, as with any medication, there are potential side effects. These may include nausea, diarrhea, and constipation. It is crucial that you take the time to consult with a healthcare professional at Revive RX Med Spa before beginning any new medication for weight loss.
