With the passing of time, facial skin can begin to lose its elasticity, its vibrant glow, and its ability to rebound after facial expressions rest. Until fairly recently, people could do little to correct this and had to accept the fact that with age comes wrinkles, fine lines, and creases.
While countless creams, lotions, and other products on the market promise to deliver results, those results all too often fall short.
Now, however, there is Sculptra, a revolutionary injectable facial treatment that can reset and restore your body’s ability to produce the substances that keep your skin naturally smooth, youthful, and supple.
Sculptra injections are quick, straightforward, and administered by experts at ReVive RX Med Spa. Results are typically long-lasting and natural-looking. This treatment addresses several of the underlying causes of facial aging, not just the outward signs.
By the age of 45, collagen production in the body has decreased by up to 25%, resulting in a marked loss of facial volume and an increase in signs of aging.
Collagen is a fiber-like protein in the deep dermal layers that is responsible for the structural support and elasticity of the skin. It helps retain moisture and maintains youthful facial contours. These functions mean that collagen is the source of radiant, smooth skin.
Sculptra works by gradually creating a collagen framework that supports skin tissue. This support is what enables elasticity and healthy smoothness to return to the face. The most common areas in which the treatment is used include:
Sculptra was the first FDA-approved facial injectable treatment that contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). It was first approved by the FDA in 2004 for restoring facial fullness for people living with HIV. In 2009, it was approved as an aesthetic treatment for those who are in good overall general health.
This injectable treatment is formulated to produce results and ramp up facial volume over time. As it reinforces the skin’s structure, it reduces lines, creases, and wrinkles. While it may sound similar to other dermal fillers, Sculptra injections are a little bit different.
Several other FDA-approved dermal fillers available on the market contain hyaluronic acid to boost volume, but Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid to stimulate the production of collagen. Poly-L-lactic acid is a biodegradable, biocompatible, and synthetic material that is tolerated well by the body.
This injectable treatment is often a good choice for people who are generally healthy and want to correct shallow to deep facial wrinkles, folds, lines, and creases. If you have a history of keloid scars, you should speak with us about alternative treatments we offer that can help your reach your aesthetic goals.
Sculptra has the consistency of a liquid, while other dermal fillers have a gel-like texture. While some other dermal fillers do stimulate the production of collagen in dermal tissues, their main function is to temporarily fill the lines and wrinkles of the face and restore missing volume.
In contrast, Sculptra has two functions: It not only adds volume to the face in the short term but also gradually helps the body add volume! Therefore, while treatment with gel-like fillers often produces some results that are immediately noticeable, results from Sculptra happen over time and last for years.
Most people are happy with their results long after treatment is completed.
Results of treatment with Sculptra injectable poly-L-lactic acid typically become noticeable after two to four treatment sessions. Just as is the case with other aesthetic treatments and dermal fillers, results vary from one patient to another according to several factors.
Sculptra is longer-lasting than many other wrinkle-reduction treatments. Galderma reports that up to 80% of patients were happy with their Sculptra results more than two years after their injections.
Treatment sessions are done by us here in our office, and there is no special preparation required and no pretesting, either. There is also no downtime needed after treatment, so once you leave our office, you can resume your normal activities for the day.
You don’t need to call off work, arrange for substitutes, or worry about using personal days or sick time. No general anesthesia is used for this treatment, so you also won’t need to rely on anyone else to provide transportation following your appointment.
A complete treatment regimen can take a couple of months. This schedule varies from patient to patient depending on factors like which areas are being treated and the severity of the targeted lines and wrinkles. Galderma, the manufacturer of Sculptra, recommends that three injections be given and spaced three weeks apart.
When you come and see us for your treatment, once you are comfortably seated and reclined, we will thoroughly cleanse the areas of your face that will receive the injections. Using a very small needle, we will inject Sculptra into the appropriate dermal layer, and that’s it!
Our patients report that it’s quick and easy. Before you leave, we will arrange your next treatment session, if necessary.
